The model, which is identical in shape to the Peterborough Tripod, carries the inscription in Gothic script on the side with the initial letter D illuminated (this is just visible in the photograph). It can also be found bearing Shakespeare’s Arms, which many people accept as matching on the grounds that the inscription is a quotation from Act IV Scene 1 of his play Macbeth.
