Additional Notes

The small version is made from ‘eggshell’ porcelain, which is very fine and almost transparent. The body of the shell has graduated tinting in pink (visible in the photograph) and is textured with raised dots, which are coloured pink around the curve of the shell. It does not carry a coat of arms. The large version is made from normal porcelain, and is entirely white. Instead of being textured with raised dots it has lines representing divisions between adjacent sections of shell. It generally carries 2 or even 3 coats of arms, one on each side and the third on the front. Both versions have a stand which is a representation of a rocky base and two pieces of red coral, the shell resting on top of the coral.
