Welcome to the Goss Collectors' Club monthly auction of Goss and other makes of heraldic (or crested) china.
Below are listed the items available in this month's auction. For each lot, descriptions both of the piece and of the arms or decoration it bears (if any) are given, followed by its reserve price. Lots listed in normal (upright) typeface were produced by the Goss factory, though this is not stated explicitly in the individual descriptions unless the item is a late "Goss England" piece. Items produced by other factories are listed in italic type, and in these cases the description begins with the factory name, which is underlined.
Please note that the auctions are only open to members of the Goss Collectors' Club, who are welcome to submit bids for or requests for information about specific pieces in it by email to the club auction secretary. Members and non-members may also purchase unsold items from earlier auctions at the reserve price. Regularly updated lists of the currently available items can be found here.
Non-members may send in postal bids for pieces in these auctions provided their membership application and the appropriate subscription is sent at the same time. Please see the club's home page or contact its system manager for details.
For the full terms and conditions of bidding please see the auction rules.
Enquiries regarding the Goss Collectors' Club may be submitted to its system manager.
Happy New Year to all my readers – New Year in February! well actually I write this in the first week in December and winter has arrived in a very windy fashion.
Those of you who read my ramblings will long ago have realised that I am usually upbeat/ optimistic despite, sometimes, there being evidence to the contrary. Well I truly believe that 2012 is going to be a good one for Goss collecting as there should be many opportunities to purchase ‘smalls’ at budget prices along with a good selection of higher valued pieces – they are already in my possession.
So with the auction taking place a few days after Valentine’s day it won’t be possible to bid for a piece for your loved one or to treat yourself but please don’t overlook the possibilities of a reserve purchase from the unsold lots from previous auctions full details of which are on the Club website – always providing you are, like me, struggling to cope with modern technology.
So if I can interest you in a bid please ensure your bid/s are with me by 2.30pm on Saturday 18th February but if using new fangled technology your e-post bids/s should be with me by midnight on the 17th – together with full postal details.
Ted
It would be mutually beneficial if you acquainted yourself with the following
Please note that if you want further advice about a piece/s please contact me in the 48 hours before the auction.
If you wish your parcel to be sent to other than your home address please advise me with your bid; this is particularly important if you wish to collect from a fair.
All packing is done the day after the auction so it is not possible to add further pieces to your package – they either have to bear their own P & P charge or await inclusion in next month’s package.
If payment will be delayed by holidays please advise me with your bid, if you want your parcel to be retained until you return from holiday please tell me when you make payment.
If you wish to ring me please do so between 10am and 9pm but not on Tuesday evenings.
If you intend ringing for the result of your bid please advise me so when you bid.
When bidding by e-mail please include full postal address and ensure you obtain an acknowledgement, if you don’t get an acknowledgement I haven’t received your bid.
Cheques to be made payable to Goss Collectors’ Club.
In the above listing there may be references to ‘Collecting Coloured Cottages’ by Sam & Maggie Seabrook,
I can provide contact details if you wish to purchase a copy this publication.

White glazed, with gilded rim, Warwick Troy House Font (In my experience Blackpool crested items are no more subject to being sub-standard than anything else – however this piece may well be the exception that proves the rule. It has a crack in the base but this has been quite effectively disguised by the majority of the base being glazed with the Goss hawk underneath. The provenance of this piece is very well known and it is extremely unlikely that it has in fact been restored and it is very likely that this is as ex-factory) |

Oval upright wall plaque , as illustrated bottom right of page 154 the Pine Price Guide, 230mm in height totally white glazed with a bas-relief of Robert Garner (An initial examination of this piece may lead you to the belief that there has been some restoration however detailed examination shows that the slight lack of crispness is due to this being an early piece and this view is supported by examination utilising the Club’s UV lamp; however there is a very small nick from the inner edge of the surround . The ribbon at the top of this piece is the ‘large’ version as illustrated in the Pine encyclopaedia on page 158 as opposed to the smaller version as illustrated on page 154.) |
